The historical place Gorkha district is situated at Gandaki Province, Nepal. It is located at 228 to 8163 meter height from the sea level and its area is 3610 sq. km. It is famous for tourism. According to the new provincial structure, the gorkha district have 2 Municipalities and 9 Rural Municipalities which are divided into 94 wards. Among them, Palungtar Municpality is one of the Municipality of Gorkha district.
In 2014 AD, The four VDC's (Chyangli, Gaikhur, Palungtar, Aampipal) are merged and then after implementation of the Provincial Rule, three VDC's (Mirkot, Dhuwakot and Khoplang) are merged and formed a New Palungtar Municipality. From the census data of 2021 AD, the household are 11072, total population are 37409 in which male are 17262 and female are 20147. The total area of Palungtar Municipality is 158.62 sq. km. In the eastern part of Palungtar Municipality, Gorkha Municipality and Siranchok Rural Municipality lies and Tanahun district is at West and Lamjung and Siranchok are at North and Gorkha Municipality and Tanahun District are at South. Gorkha Municipality and Siranchok Rural Municipality is at east of the Palungtar Municipality where as Tanahun district is at west, Lamjung district and Siranchok are at North and Gorka Municipality and Tanahun district are at South.
